Deal for oral COVID-19 treatment close: minister - (Taipei Times via NewsPoints Desk)

  • Taiwan is close to signing a contract with Merck to purchase the oral antiviral COVID-19 treatment molnupiravir, said Chen Shih-chung, the minister of health and welfare, Taipei Times reported.

  • Earlier this month, Merck said that it would seek authorization for molnupiravir after the drug was shown to reduce hospitalizations of people newly infected with COVID-19 by 50%.

  • Meanwhile, several hospitals in Taiwan are reportedly participating in Phase III trials for Pfizer’s PF-07321332 antiviral drug.
