U.S. moves closer to clearing Moderna and J&J Covid booster shots this week - (CNBC via NewsPoints Desk)

  • An FDA advisory panel will meet on Thursday and Friday to review booster doses of COVID-19 vaccines from Moderna and Johnson & Johnson, CNBC reported Monday.

  • The meetings come less than a month after US regulators authorised booster shots of Pfizer and BioNTech's vaccine to certain groups, including the elderly.

  • However, at the time, members on the Vaccines and Related Biological Products Advisory Committee, as well as Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) panel, expressed frustration that only those initially given the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine would be eligible for a booster.

  • The FDA committee will discuss Moderna's booster dose on Thursday and Johnson & Johnson's on Friday.

  • Meanwhile, the CDC's next vaccine advisory meeting is scheduled for October 20 to October 21 where it is expected to discuss the boosters.
